What it is and how it started:
Gloves 4 Troops is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that sends baseball gloves and baseballs to U.S. military members around the world. It started during the offseason in 2012 when baseball player Vance Albitz read an article about a soldier in Afghanistan who was asked a simple question:
Writer: "If you could receive one thing from someone back home right now, what would it be?"
Soldier: "Two baseball gloves and a baseball so my buddy and I could play catch."
Upon reading the article, Gloves 4 Troops was created, and America's Pastime has been brought to American soldiers far from home ever since. In two years, Gloves 4 Troops has sent more than 3,000 baseball gloves and baseballs overseas to more than 20 countries.
